Descending to 3000ft
A few moments before reaching the NDB “CH”, we receive the instructions to descend to 3000ft and to change our course.
-
Turn left heading 360:
-
We turn to the left while changing the heading selector in the plane from 45° to 0° (=360°).
-
-
Descend 3000 ft, QNH 1030:
-
We have to descend to 3000ft and change the barometer to 1030 hPa when passing 3000ft.
-
At this moment, we’re flying the right-hand downwind leg of runway 18R (parallel to the runway, in the opposite direction we’re supposed to land). After passing the runway, we’ll receive new instructions from Amsterdam Approach.
We’re flying the right base leg (nr9 on drawing) now, a few moments later we receive new instructions again.
- Intercept Localizer:
- The pilot is instructed to intercept the localizer of runway 18R. As of that moment, the pilot is responsible to maintain speed and altitude to safely position the aircraft in line with the runway and to proceed with the landing itself.
