Descending to FL100 - 10.31 LT
We’re instructed to descend to FL100 just before the VOR Haamstede (HSD).
We’ve reached FL100 just before River. In River, our STAR (Helen1A) is complete. This endpoint is called an IAF[1]. Once we’ve reached the IAF, it’s time to start preparing our landing.
From now on, we’ll have to monitor our speed closely since it is limited to 250 kts (≈ 460 km/h) or less below FL100. This speed limit is valid everywhere and must be known by all virtual pilots. To keep enough distance between several planes, the controller can instruct you to lower your speed even further.
Amsterdam Control will hand us over to Schiphol Approach just before the
