Frequently Asked Questions

IVAO stands for "International Virtual Aviation Organisation".  We offer a dedicated, independant, free of charge service to enthusiasts and individuals enjoying and participating in the worldwide flight simulation community.

IVAO provides a dedicated environment for online flying and controlling to our members.

As worldwide organisation, IVAO consists of a headquarter (HQ) and local divisions. Each division is responsable for it's own organisation and reports to the HQ. To cope with all the tasks within a division, several departments are created like the Members Department, the Training Department, the Special Operations Department and the Events Department. Next to these departments, we also have out Flight Operations, ATC Operations Department and the Webmasters.

To encourage the interaction between our members, IVAO offers a forum both at division and international level.

To offer services to our members, IVAO uses dedicated servers located throughout the world.  These servers handle everything related to flying, controlling, weather and communication.

Membership of IVAO is free of charge.

First of all, you need some basics like a computer, a flight simulator software (MS Flight Simulator or X-Plane) and a joystick. To improve the experience, a headset (preferable with a microphone) is recommended as well.

As member of IVAO, you need to download and install the client programs that were developped by our development team. These can be found at http://www.ivao.aero/softdev. This software is needed to connect to our servers and to fully experience on-line flying.

We do expect from our pilots some basic skills when handling a plane like taxiing from A to B, a normal take-off and a safe landing.

You can join the IVAO community by registering on the main site.
Then you can register at http://www.ivao.aero/members/person/register.htm.The system says you cannot register? It's probably because you already have an account at IVAO, if it's the case, please contact the division Membership Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator at or (where XX is the two letter code of the division, like BE for Belgium - http://www.ivao.aero/divisions/divisions.asp) and they will reactivate your account so you can use your original account. If you belong to an inactive division please contact members@ivao.aero

All the software you need is available on the main IVAO site in the Software Development section.

You can look for your VID or IVAO ID in the member list of the division. You can look in the list of active accounts (if it's not been too long ago since you used your account) or in the list of inactive accounts if it has been quite some time since you last used it.

As part of the registration process, you received a confirmation mail with 2 passwords, one for on-line flying or controlling (IVAN password) and one for the website (website password).  Via the link on the "Member Details" page, these can be automatically send to you again via the e-mail address you provided during the registration process.

If you have no access to this page, you can use the password reminder page on the HQ site.  There is also a link to the memberlist in case you forgot your ID as well.

Remember and keep up-to-date your original email adress used at the time of registration. All official mailings, but more importantly, all your passwords requests will only be send to that (original) email address.

Passwords are automatically generated and send to you via e-mail.  There is no need for someone from IVAO to ask you for your password. If you're asked to share it, do not give your passwords and inform your division staff as soon as possible.

Passwords are personal and confidential. Never give your passwords to someone else ... even if they claim to be a staff member !

When IVAO was founded, we operated under a different domain name but due to some organizational problems, we changed to "ivao.aero". More info can be found here.  Please make sure to use the correct domain or url when sending e-mail to staff-members or when visiting the HQ-site (www.ivao.aero).  The site you're visiting right now (http://be.ivao.aero) is the website of the Belgian Division of ivao.aero.
