Welcome to the IVAO Belgium division! This guide is intended to make sure you know your way around the network and get the software ready and connected to accomplish what you are looking for: fly with us.
Note: At this stage you need to have created an IVAO account and have your IVAN password noted down next to you.
NOTE: This manual is dedicated only for IVAO Network activities. This document must not be used in real aviation or in others networks.
In order to communicate with the network, you are required to use official software approved by IVAO. You may download them on www.ivao.be
under the tab ‘Downloads’. You will found four pictures at the bottom of the page which represent a specific software.
You will be prompted to a new tab with a list of available software. Click on download and simply await for it to be done. As soon as it is completed extract all the files somewhere on your desktop and launch the executable. Follow the steps throughout the wizard and it should launch the MTL Installer once IvAp is installed.
MULITPLAYER TRAFFIC LIBRARY - MTL
The MTL are necessary in order to see the clients around you. They consist in a bunch of image files and sound that will be displayed to represent the other pilots.
Select a MTL in the list and click on ‘Download’ in the right bottom corner of the installer. It is recommended to install all of them. Choose the nearest server to download the MTL and wait for it to be completed.
It might take some time depending on the number of MTL that is needed to be downloaded and the quality of your Internet characteristic.
You need one more software to be able to communicate with the controller. If you do not have a microphone, it is still recommended to install Teamspeak 2 but is not mandatory.
Attention: You need Teamspeak 2. Teamspeak 3 will not work on IVAO servers.
Usually, the Teamspeak installation is brought to you within IvAp wizard. If it was not the case, you may get a free copy here
Follow the steps to install it. Once it is done, open Teamspeak in order to change the settings. Click on ‘Sound Input/Output Settings’. A pop up will open.
It is recommended you use the ‘Push to Talk’ transmission method to communicate with Teamspeak. If you do so, you will need to set a default key that you will need to press to talk. Click on set and hit the key you want to set up.
The rest of the options in that box are optional, feel free to custom them at your own discretion to experience a better sound quality.
That’s it for the software part. I hope you are still as much motivated as you were prior to installing everything! Take a breath and fasten your belt, you are about to enter into a very addictive simulation experience.
It’s now time to launch your Flight Simulator and pick an aircraft. Choose the airfield you want and hit the ‘Take Off’ button!
CONNECTION ON THE NETWORK
You are just a few steps away to connect into our fabulous world.
Note that the following indication are to be used for either FS9, FSX and FSX:SE only.
Upon your simulator has loaded the texture, you may look up the tool bar and click on ‘Add On’ then ‘IvAp’. It will launch the IvAp module.
Below the text, here is how it should look like. You will notice it looks like a FMC with the left and right button across the main screen where the text is displayed. Click on the button located near to ‘MAIN>’.
On the right side upper corner, you may see ‘FP’ as known as flight plan, ‘FS’ for ‘Flight Simulator’, MP stands for ‘Multiplayer’ and last ‘NET’ for Internet. The orange color means something needs your attention. In that case, it simply say your flight plan was not sent yet. We will see that feature at a later stage. In contrary, the green color associated to any function indicates it works fine.
Let’s look down at the big grey button and the four digits next to it. It represents your transponder (you may find it on your aircraft aswell) along with the squawk code.
Make sure to turn the grey button on ‘TX’ position upon entering the active runway and turn it back on ‘STDBY’ once you have landed.
On the right side of the digits, you may notice the little black circle with ‘IDENT’. Click on that circle whenever the controller asks you to ‘squawk ident’ so your label shown on the radar screen will get highlighted to allow easier identification throughout the workflow of traffic.
IvAp status is actually shown ‘Offline’. I guess it does not require more explanation since it’s pretty obvious to understand you are not connected to our network yet when this status is displayed. At last, there are these three buttons each labelled with a different name.
The TCAS is a useful tool frequently used in commercial aircraft nowadays. The PUSHBACK function is an implemented tool to push back your aircraft from the gate. Finally, the CONN button shall be used to log in on the network. Click on it, a pop up will appear.
Fill in each field with what you are asked to do. Pick a callsign of your choice. Then add up your real name and base airport (the nearest airport from your real location) along with your VID and IVAN password
. These settings shall normally not be edited after they’ve been added. Do not forget to tick the ‘Remember VID/Password’ to make things easier. It’s time to choose an MTL. Select the one that will represent the aircraft you currently fly on to the rest of the network along with a livery.
Select an IVAN server, leave the port as it is and choose the best option for voice capabilities. Ready?
Make sure you are connected at a gate and not on the active runway.
Hit ‘Connect’ and if everything has gone well, you should be connected.
Do you see the same welcome message as displayed on the screen? If yes, congratulations you just connected on the network. If not, make sure to read carefully the red message that should appear and state a reason as to why you could not connect. Usually, it is because your password is wrong or you wrongly typed it.
It’s time to explain a bit about IvAp and its features. This guide is not intended to detail every single feature. If you need more information or want to know more, please check the IvAp manual.
The first red square (1) in the left corner represents your radio. It is linked to the panel radio from your aircraft, so is the squawk code. You may either change the radio frequency on your panel radio or directly via the command ‘.c 000.000 with the frequency you want. Type the command into (3). You may select one of the two radios by clicking on the button located on the left of the frequency. Right click on one of these two buttons to see a list of active ATC nearby you. Click on ‘MAIN’ to get back to the main window.
Try out yourself the rest of the functionalities by clicking on ‘ACARS’. The ‘REQ METAR DEP/ARR’ will be displayed with the ICAO code of the airport you chose when you filled in your flight plan. Use this feature to retrieve the weather information on each airport. Need a TAF or a METAR from another airport? No problem, simply note down the ICAO code of it into the typing area and click on ‘REQ METAR’ or anything else you need to know.
I’m sure you can’t wait for doing your first flight. No problem but you need to send a flight plan prior to doing anything else. Go in ACARS, then SEND FLIGHTPLAN. Again, a pop up will appear. The weather is clear, so let’s go for a VFR navigation if you’re okay.
Each field has to be entered with a value. Not sure about what you should put? It’s fine, click on the three dots near to each item and it will open a pop up with a list of stuff you may select. There is a small description of each value to help you out.
Note: There is an option to save or load your flight plan or RESET it even. Click on the button you want at the bottom of the flight plan. You may also use REQ ROUTE. It is to be used for IFR flights only and provides you with a list of routes available. You need to fill the departure and arrival aerodrome first. If no route is found, feel free to use a route finder on Internet such as Route Finder.
Additionally, you may need the charts and it’s available at this address for Belgium airspace.
Are you done? Great, hit the SEND FPL button and the FP light on your IvAp window should turn in green color.
The way is still long until you get to familiarize yourself with IvAp and all its features and the network in its whole. Don’t worry, we have all gone through these steps too and we can assure you it is a matter of time before you really enjoy the network.
